Raised on the North Shore of Long Island, Dr. Dussel commenced his journey towards medicine at Boston College where he obtained a degree in Biology. At BC, John embraced the importance of teamwork and dedication as a distance swimmer for the D1 team. Following college, he transitioned from pure academics to patient-centered care working in the Massachusetts General Hospital cancer labs. John then attended St. George’s University where he met his wife and received his medical degree.
Post medical school, Dr. Dussel completed a five-year surgical residency at Waterbury Hospital and continued a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Connecticut in Hartford. John is double board certified and a fellow in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery from the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Dussel amalgamates a robust foundation in classical vascular theory with advanced medical techniques and evidence-based practices to devise personalized treatment plans. His patient-centric approach and dedication to fostering robust relationships between the vascular team and patients ensure optimal health outcomes. Since 2018, he has been serving the community of Portland by performing fundamental vascular procedures and expanding his practice to emphasize venous disease and spine access. Outside of the operating room, he relishes spending time with his wife and three sons, exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest: the nature and the food.
