Dr. Long was born in Houston, TX but moved to Oklahoma City as a child.  He grew up loving sports and ended up being a 3-sport varsity athlete and 2 sport state champion.  However, it was while recovering from a torn ACL that he began to develop his interest in medicine as a profession.  Knowing that being a surgeon was his ultimate goal, he left Oklahoma to study pre-med at Johns Hopkins while also playing on their baseball team.  After graduating, he married his wife Christa and returned home to attend the University of Oklahoma for Medical school.  He returned to his Texas roots for the next 7 years while he completed his general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Baylor Scott and White in Temple, TX.  After fellowship he moved back to Oklahoma City and quickly grew his practice while at the premier cardiovascular hospital in Oklahoma, Oklahoma Heart Hospital.  While at Oklahoma Heart Hospital he developed their trans-carotid stenting program which became the only center of excellence in the state at the time.  Silkroad Medical then approached him about becoming a physician proctor for the procedure, a role he continues to enjoy performing today.

A former colleague from training introduced him to an amazing opportunity to live in a paradise close to many of his hobbies while working with the premier vascular surgery group in Oregon.  He was struck by the opportunity to help grow a practice, serve a unique community all while exploring the natural beauty that central Oregon has to offer.  Professionally Dr. Long’s practice focuses on open and endovascular aortic procedures, carotid endarterectomy and carotid stenting, peripheral artery revascularization, dialysis access creation as well as anterior spine exposure for ALIF procedures.  He is pleased to join Oregon Vascular Specialists and carry out the goal to provide the most comprehensive vascular surgery care including medical management, open and minimally invasive procedures in an easily accessible and patient centered practice.

While not at work Dr. Long enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids hiking, kayaking, golfing, skiing, and traveling.
