Dr. Wiest is a native of Southern California and attended college at the University of California, San Diego, where he graduated with Highest Honors in Biology. He attended medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles where he also started his
residency in general surgery. There, he received the Outstanding Resident 1 award. Dr. Wiest completed his general surgery residency training at the University of Utah where he received the Distinguished House Officer award. He completed his vascular surgery fellowship at St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Wiest had a private vascular surgery practice in Portland Oregon for 35 years. In addition to his private practice, he served on the clinical faculty at Oregon Health & Science University where he oversaw the training of general surgery residents. There, he was awarded the Clinical Faculty Teaching Award and twice the Golden Scalpel Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Over the past several years, Dr Wiest developed an interest and expertise in spine access surgery. Dr. Wiest is delighted to join Oregon Vascular Specialists and work with the Bend neurosurgical and orthopedic spine community to assist in spinal fusion surgeries.
When Dr. Wiest is not operating, you can find him fly fishing (he won’t disclose the location), skiing, or traveling with his wife and his dog.
